On 21 May 2012, in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee,  the Honourable Steven Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia,  opened Government House to the public.  The Lieutenant Governor, surrounded by the Pioneer Players in costume,  unveiled a bronze statue of  Sir James Douglas that now stands on a granite outcrop and looks towards the main entrance of Government House.  The statue was commissioned by the Government House Foundation and sculpted by Armando Barbon.    The Lieutenant Governor and Janet Renouf, President of the Friends, planted two Amber Jubilee Ninebark – a gift from the Province of Manitoba.  A ceremonial one-gun salute was fired by the 78th Fraser Highlanders.
